In these days in which Ramadan is drawing to an end we expect at the same time in joyful excitement the highlight of this blessed month: “The night of Power” (Lailat al-qadr) – according to the Qur’an a night that is more valuable than thousand months.
Following a tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (saw), this night should be sought in one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan (cf. al-Bukhārī, Laylat al-Qadr, 3; Muslim, aṣ-Ṣiyām, 216). According to most narrations it falls on the 27th night of Ramadan, considering the Gregorian calendar this year it falls in the night from 5th to 6th April. On this occasion KUDEM congratulates to all Muslims on this particular night and asks Allah for acceptance of all our worships and prayers in Ramadan, and let each of us be part of His blessings.
In that night which bears the name of a Surah of theQur’an, the revelation of the divine message (wahy) began. To illustrate the distinguished position of that night the 97th Surah of the Qur’an is being revealed as following: “We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend there in, by the permission of their Lord, with all decrees. It’s all Peace!.. until the rise of dawn (Morning Sun)!” (Qur’an: 97/1-5)
Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) called onMuslims to spend the night in a dignified manner with worshiping. He also promised that the prayers will receive special acceptance in that night andsins will be forgiven: “Whoever commits the Night of Power in savoring its meaning and dignity, by anticipating his reward only from Allah will be granted by the remission of his sins.” (al-Bukharī, Tarāwīḥ, 2; Muslim, aṣ-ṣalāt, 25). The Prophet (pbuh) also suggests us to recite following prayer for the night:“O Allah, You are the One who grants pardon for sins, loves forgiving, so forgive me.”(At-Tirmidhi, Da’awat, 84).
So we should also bargain from this night to repent of our wrongdoings and sins, and to turn back to Allah. May all of our sins be forgiven in this night which is a divine gift by Allah. In the hope that Allah allows us to reach Ramadan festival in health, well-being and happiness, we also pray for the return of peace, love harmony and fraternity in the world.
