Description
In his new book, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin İlker Çınar (founding director and head of IFIS&IZ) addresses the question of which qualifications and requirements must be met for a competent understanding and contemporary interpretation of the Qur’anic text and which methods and sciences must be applied for a hermeneutically correct approach to the Qur’an. To answer these questions, after a general introduction to the Qur’an and its textual genesis, the most important disciplines of Qur’anic scholarship (ʿulūm al-qurʾān) are treated in depth within 26 chapters in light of classical and contemporary sources. The work is the result of years of intensive research and is the most comprehensive discourse to date on Qur’anic sciences from an academic-theological perspective in the German-speaking world. With its study-friendly conception, the book is also ideally suited for students of Islamic theology, Islamic studies and religious education.
